The group stage of the UEFA Euro 2016 has finished in France. Following the results of third matchday two players of FC Krasnodar will go on fighting for the medals.
Artur Jędrzejczyk played confidently in the third consecutive match of his Poland national team spending full 90 minutes on the pitch. The Poles beat Ukraine 1:0 thanks to a goal by Jakub Błaszczykowski and obtained 5 points ranking second in the Group C and conceding to Germany on a tiebreaker. Now Poland is to meet Switzerland in the round of 16 on June 25th.
Ragnar Sigurðsson spent his third full Euro match at a high level, too, helping Iceland beat Austria 2:1. Jón Daði Böðvarsson scored an opener for the northerners on the 18th minute, and then closer to the half-time Austria missed a penalty kick. With an hour of the game done the Austrian team still managed to produce an equalizer thanks to Alessandro Schöpf. Still, as late as in the injury time Arnór Ingvi Traustason scored a decisive goal for Iceland in a counterattack. Ragnar Sigurðsson and his teammates ranked second in the Group F with 5 points earned letting Hungary through on a tiebreaker. On June 27th the Icelanders are to compete against England to advance to the quarterfinal.
Andreas Granqvist played the whole three games of the group phase from kick-off to full-time the way his two a/m partners did. In the decisive clash Sweden failed to overpower Belgium losing 1:0 at the death after a shot by Radja Nainggolan. The Swedish team ranked fourth in the Group E with a single point earned and was eliminated from the tournament. Upon returning home from France Granqvist will receive a couple of weeks to rest, and he will join FC Krasnodar at the training camp in Austria.
