13 September 2021. Rostov-on-Don. Rostov Arena Stadium. Scattered clouds.

Another episode of the regular Southern Derby took about twenty minutes to get serious, but then things began happening in sufficient quantity. On the 21st minute Cabella could have totally scored after a raid by Claesson, but he chose a tricky option to shoot the ball with the outside of his foot and the pigskin went away from the goal.

On the 28th minute FC Rostov scored an opener even though they had not created a single chance by then. Uroš Spajić sent the ball into the corner of the own goal with the back of his head after a serve from Terentyev. Two minutes later Matyunin the ref regarded a foul by Krychowiak in a harmless situation as a good enough reason for the second yellow card. FC Krasnodar was thus left with a man down.

That same Spajić gave the Bulls a marvelous chance for an equalizer just before the interval. The Serbian centre-back won the second ball in the opposite box and got his leg kicked. The referee team consulted with their VAR colleagues and ordered a penalty kick. Unfortunately for the black-greens, Cabella fired the ball from the penalty spot a bit to the left from the target. A forced substitution of Córdoba completed the global picture of the first half where the visitors got unlucky almost in every way.

And yet, even with a man down FC Krasnodar managed to seize the initiative in the second half and score an equalizing goal. Ionov produced a delicate pass to Spertsyan dashing into the Rostov box, and the Krasnodar Academy-trained player shot the ball past the keeper. In the time that remained both sides could have snatched the win from each other, but the score did not change. The Bulls had never lost a single match of the Russian Premier League away in Rostov, and tonight, on 13 September, this tradition was not broken either.
