It became the third match after the Russian Premier League restart that the Bulls began in an active way, but FC Rubin actually managed to keep up with that tempo. As the first half progressed both teams traded some attacks, but they did not get the ball past the goalies. Dyupin coped with dangerous shots by Cabella and Wanderson, and Martynovich lacked some accuracy when he attempted to convert a serve from a free kick into a goal-scoring header. In return, Ignatyev was very active with the Rubin squad throughout the first half, and Abildgaard just barely missed meeting a low cross at the far post on the 19th minute.
One way or another, it was the home team that produced the decisive shot of the game. On the 51st minute Denis Makarov fired a biting one from the medium distance, and deflection made the ball unsavable for Safonov. With Marcus Berg absent at the attack spearhead and Sergei Petrov on the flank (both players missed the match because of suspensions) the Bulls won the initiative in the remaining half an hour, but they failed to make the score equal again.
