In the first half Getafe was able to impose a rough game on FC Krasnodar, with high pressing and lots of duels. The bulky Spanish players naturally felt more comfortable playing this type of football. As a result, the visitors scored an opener on the 36th minute. Olsson lost the ball in the defensive midfield, and it allowed Ángel to arrive to a rendezvous with Safonov and shoot the ball past the Krasnodar goalkeeper.
Early in the second half FC Krasnodar seized back the initiative and created a couple of chances. It did not work out. Berg hit the goalie with his finishing shot a few meters away from the goal, and Ari failed to convert a splendid cross by Olsson into a one-on-one situation. Instead of scoring the equalizer the Bulls conceded the second goal. Ángel received the ball after a serve from a free kick and recorded a brace for himself with a shot on the volley.
A few minutes later the black-greens shortened the gap thanks to Ari. The Krasnodar striker won a race on the left flank and passed the pigskin to Suleymanov in the centre of the goal area, and then he was the one to finish a rebound. The Bulls had an upper hand in the ending, and when Timor was sent off pitch on the 81st minute for his second yellow card, Getafe focused solely on defense.
This plan of the away team was close to failing, but Utkin totally missed the ball when he tried to shoot it one-touch from a killing position. Late in the injury time Berg almost managed to push the ball past Chichizola, but the latter saved his team after all.
