FC Krasnodar and AS Saint-Étienne (France) have agreed on the transfer of attacking midfielder Rémy Cabella to the Russian club.
Rémy Cabella was born on 8 March 1990 in Ajaccio, Corsica. He had been going in for football at various football schools attached to small clubs until the age of 14 when he moved to the Montpellier’s academy in 2004. He signed his first professional contract with the same club, but it was a different team, Arles-Avignon, where he made his debut as an adult player of the French top-tier division, Ligue 1 after moving there on loan in season 2010/11. In summer 2011 he returned to Montpellier HSC and won the 2011–12 Ligue 1 season with La Paillade. In three seasons he spent with Montpellier, Cabella (able to play virtually in any attacking position) became one of the key players of his team. He made 116 appearances scoring 28 goals and providing 18 assists to his partners.
In July 2014 Cabella moved to Newcastle United F.C. after signing a six-year contract with this British club. He stayed there for one season however, as he came back to his homeland and joined Olympique de Marseille on loan. The French club had a buyout clause in Cabella’s contract, so they used it in summer 2016.
Remy defended Les Olympiens’ colors for two years. The number of appearances for the Marseille club, 81, speaks well for how important Cabella was to his team. After the Olympique career Remy moved to Saint-Étienne, on loan at first and then signing a full-fledged contract. In season 2018/19 Cabella, one of the leaders of Les Verts and their playmaker, made 33 official appearances and earned 15 (10+15) points according to the “goal + pass” system.
Rémy Cabella had been called to the France national under-21 team since 2011, and in May 2014 he played his first game for the principal national team of his country in a scrimmage against Norway. Since then he capped four times for Les Bleus.
As for now, all details governing Rémy Cabella’s transfer to FC Krasnodar have been agreed upon. The midfielder will arrive to our city soon in order to pass a medical examination, so a personal contract can be signed with him following its results.
